Dubbo
The community consultation in Dubbo was held on Thursday, 13 December 2012. Twenty-two community members attended from the Dubbo region and surrounding areas including Walgett, Condobolin, Wagga Wagga, Forbes, Coonamble and Gilgandra. Key themes emerging from the consultation included the role that education can play in lifting people out of disadvantage and empowering them to make their own choices, the impact of self esteem on health, wellbeing and other facets of life, and the impact of racism on health and access to services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The importance of establishing linkages and networks between services and ensuring adequate access to services in regional and remote areas was another key theme. Barriers to accessing services such as lack of trust, financial considerations, lack of awareness, transport and remoteness were also noted.Program/Initiatives
