The first community consultation was held in Darwin on Monday 1 October 2012. The consultation comprised 52 local Darwin community members and their representatives who broke up into small groups for opportunistic conversations about the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The key themes raised included the importance of education and literacy, including formal schooling as well as general health education; workforce attraction, training and retention; and food and nutrition. The consultation also provided an opportunity for participants to speak directly with Minister Snowdon.
