Summary of the NATSIHP consultation in Brisbane
The consultations for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan (the Health Plan) are currently underway. This page will be updated with the latest news and highlights from the consultations as they progress.
Brisbane
The community consultation in Brisbane was held on Tuesday 4 December 2012. Seventy community members and other representatives participated in the consultation and were welcomed by the Minister for Indigenous Health, the Hon Warren Snowdon MP. A number of key themes emerged from the group discussions including the importance of recognising elders as role models and valuable resources within the community, the importance of creating services around the family model of care, the need for a flexible and sustainable funding model based on community needs and recognising services such as lifeline and the Australian Breastfeeding Association as part of the allied health system. Participants also expressed the need for genuine and honest collaboration across services including the sharing of resources.Program/Initiatives
