Funding is being provided to engage PIR organisations in each of the 61 Medicare Local geographic regions.

The department released an invitation to apply (ITA) for funding to engage PIR organisations as part of the Partners in Recovery (PIR): coordinated support and flexible funding for people with severe, persistent mental illness and complex needs initiative. The ITA closed on 18 December 2012. The ITA closed on 18 December 2012. Applications have been assessed and Minister Butler announced on 5 April 2013 via media release that 49 of the 61 Medicare Local regions are ready for stage one of the PIR rollout.

Contract negotiations with successful organisations will commence in the coming weeks.

Funding will be available to engage PIR organisations in each of the 61 Medicare Local geographic regions around Australia.

PIR aims to improve the system response to, and outcomes for, people with severe and persistent mental illness who have complex needs.

PIR organisations will work at a systems level and be the mechanism to drive collaboration between relevant sectors, services and supports within the region to ensure that all relevant needs of people in the target group are identified and met.

Information about the role of PIR organisations and the funding process is detailed in the program guidelines.

The invitation to apply document has been made available to ensure completeness of reference materials and archiving:
