National Health Workforce Dataset
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), in conjunction with the national boards, is responsible for the national registration process for 14 health professions. The data from this annual registration process, together with data from a workforce survey that is voluntarily completed at the time of registration, forms the National Health Workforce Dataset (NHWDS). Data in the NHWDS includes demographic and employment information for registered health professionals.
Clinical Placements Dataset
DoH conducts an annual collection of clinical training placements from universities in Australia for professional-entry students in the medical, nursing, dentistry and allied health disciplines. This dataset contains detailed information on the clinical setting of the placements for each of the health disciplines, and the geographic location of the placement. Reliable, up-to-date information on the volume and type of clinical training placement activity taking place across Australia is vital in workforce modelling and planning. The survey of clinical training placements provides policy makers with national statistics on the nature and extent of the higher education supply of health professionals to Australia’s health workforce.
Workforce planning tool
The health workforce planning tool can be used to undertake health workforce supply and demand projections by each state and territory to identify potential gaps and oversupply in Australia’s health workforce at local and national levels. The tool was originally developed by the National Health Workforce Taskforce, part of the former Health Workforce Australia.
Workforce planners can import their own datasets into the tool via an input template. Enquires about accessing the software can be emailed to healthworkforcedata for processing.
