Minister for Senior Australians and Aged Care and Minister for Indigenous Health, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, joined the meeting via telephone and reiterated his goal of the Committee providing him with the Roadmap by the end of February 2019.

The Committee agreed to meet in late January to finalise the draft Roadmap, and to host a second stakeholder forum in mid-February to introduce the draft Roadmap to a wider group of stakeholders and gain final comments.

The Committee worked on the arrangement of domains within the Roadmap. The draft domains are presently:

  • Including the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing
  • Closing the Gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Ear Health
  • Preventing Hearing Loss
  • Identifying Hearing Loss
  • Providing Support to the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing
  • Enhancing the Hearing Workforce.
The Committee reviewed the current draft Roadmap, making suggestions for improvement throughout the document with particular regards to terminology, the prioritisation of various short-, medium-, and long-term actions under each domain, and the framing of the Roadmap within the broader development of the sector.

The Hearing Health Sector Committee is made up of representative stakeholders and was established in July 2018 to progress the development of a Roadmap for Hearing Health. The Roadmap will set out future reform directions and priorities for improvements to hearing health for all Australians.
