Welcome to the Promoting Healthy Weight web page. This site provides interesting and useful information on weight and associated issues. The Healthy Living Branch within the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, focuses on the promotion of nutrition and healthy eating and participation in physical activity as a means of maintaining healthy body weight and reducing the risk of chronic disease. Participation in regular moderate intensity physical activity and a balanced and nutritious diet are key factors in controlling overweight and obesity, which are risk factors for a number of non-communicable disease such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and particular cancers.
To help Australians to achieve or maintain a healthy weight, the Australian Government is developing a National Healthy Weight Guide for consumers which provides information and advice that reflects their lifestage.
