Cancer Costs in Australia - The potential Impact of Dietary Change

There is broad consensus that poor diet and nutrition have a significant impact on the overall burden of disease and disability in Australia. Good nutrition plays an important role in every stage of the lifecycle, from birth to old age. Poor diet and nutrition have been identified as contributing to the risk of diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, atherosclerosis, cancers of several sites, Type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, dental caries and gall bladder disease. These diseases place an enormous social and economic burden on individuals, families and society as a whole.
