Private Health Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Bill 2014 - Exposure Draft and Explanatory Materials

In accordance with the 2014-15 Budget: Smaller Government - additional reductions in the number of Australian Government bodies, the prudential regulation of the private health insurance industry will transfer from the Private Health Insurance Administration Council to the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority. These changes will be made through the Private Health Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Bill 2015 (the Bill) which is expected to be introduced in the Autumn 2015 Parliamentary Sitting.

In anticipation of the Bill’s introduction, an exposure draft Bill and related explanatory materials are available for public comment from interested stakeholders. In addition, a consultation paper summarising the corresponding amendments to the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 is also available for comment.

These materials and details on how to make a submission are available on Treasury’s website on 12 January 2015 via the Treasury website.

The abovementioned documents will remain on Treasury’s website until 30 January 2015 to allow for public submissions on the draft materials.
