Amendment to the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules 2014 (NO. 1)

The purpose of this Circular is to inform stakeholders that the delegate of the Minister for Health intends to amend the Prostheses List by making the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Amendment Rules 2014 (No. 3) (the Amendment Rules). The Amendment Rules are intended to commence on 6 December 2014.
The Amendment Rules will amend the Prostheses List by:
  • expanding billing code - ZI489 into 2 new billing codes;
  • adding 7 new billing codes to Part A following the granting of applications
  • increasing the minimum benefits for AS203 and AS204 following a review of these prostheses;
  • changing the groupings of BX320 and BX312 to reflect their correct groupings;
  • amending the product name and description of MC668 at the request of the sponsor;
  • applying the correct suffix “>55mm” to NV092 with no change in benefit;
  • adding 1 new billing code to Part B following the granting of an application;
  • changing the facility name for two billing codes – TBV52 and TBV53 – to “Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria (formerly Victorian Institute for Forensic Medicine); and
  • deleting 5 billing codes for femoral heads in Part B as they are no longer supplied by the facilities.

It is anticipated that the Amendment Rules will be published on 21 November 2014.
