Changes to Second-Tier Eligible Hospitals
The Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Amendment Rules 2014 (No. 1)
(the Amendment Rules) were registered with the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI) and commence on 20 March 2014 (FRLI Number: F2014L00309). Changes to the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Rules 2011
(the Rules) relating to Schedule 5 – Second-Tier Default Benefits are outlined below.
As advised in PHI 07/13, the Rules no longer contain a list of facilities eligible for
second-tier default benefits. Rather, the Rules reference a list of eligible facilities maintained by the Second Tier Advisory Committee (STAC).
The Amendment Rules update the reference to the latest STAC-approved list of second-tier eligible facilities published in this circular. The current STAC-approved list of second-tier eligible facilities is at Attachment A
outlines the changes made to the STAC-approved list as a result of the 21 February 2014 meeting.
Next Second Tier Advisory Committee Meeting
The next STAC meeting will be held on Friday, 16 May 2014.
The closing date for applications is Thursday, 17 April 2014.

Second Tier Renewal Reminder
Please note that the second-tier status of private hospital facilities listed at Attachment C
is due to expire on 30 June 2014.
Hospitals wishing to apply for continued eligibility need to submit an application to the STAC in accordance with the process detailed above.
