Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Amendment Rules 2011 - Changes to Second Tier Eligible Hospitals

The Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Amendment Rules 2011 (No.10) (the Rules) have been registered with the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments (FRLI) and take effect on 20 December 2011 (FRLI No. F2011L02731).

The changes to the Rules relate to Schedule 5 – Second Tier Default Benefits and are outlined below.

New Hospitals Added

The following hospitals have been added to Schedule 5 of the Rules. These hospitals will be eligible for Second Tier Default Benefits until 30 June 2013.

Next Second Tier Advisory Committee Meeting

The next Second Tier Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Friday 24 February 2012.

The closing date for applications is Friday 3 February 2012.

Please note that applicants are required to submit nine copies of their applications to:

Applicants should also provide at least two copies of a covering letter which contains contact details of the person responsible for the application, including name, position title, phone number and postal address.

Accurate and Up-to-date Declared Hospital Details

Please note that a hospital declaration is a legal instrument and it is important that information pertaining to declared hospitals is accurately reflected. In accordance with Private Health Insurance Circular PHI 76/11 of 17 October 2011, declared facilities need to notify the Department of Health and Ageing in the event of any of the following circumstances:

• name/ownership changes
• address changes
• mergers
• closures.
