Private Health Insurance Rebate Revised Implementation Date

The Private Health Insurance Rebate Tiers legislation, which would introduce means testing for the Private Health Insurance Rebate and increase Medicare Levy Surcharge rates for higher income earners, aims to rebalance private health insurance support, so that those who have a greater capacity to provide for their own private health insurance do so.

The Government is committed to pursuing these changes, however, the implementation date for the changes has been revised due to the rejection of the legislation by the Senate to date.

As stated in Budget Paper No. 1 2010-11 (page 3-19), the revised implementation date is now 1 July 2011.
