Review of Health Technology Assessment in Australia: Update on Implementation of Continuous Application Process for the Prostheses List
The purpose of this circular is to provide industry with an update on the implementation of a continuous application process for the Prostheses List arrangements.
As advised in PHI Circular 24/10 of 4 May 2010, recommendations 10, 11 and 12 of the Review of Health Technology Assessment in Australia
(HTA Review) report outline specific changes to streamline the administration of the prostheses listing arrangements, and work is underway to implement these recommendations. Recommendation 12 calls for applications for the Prostheses List to be accepted on a continuous basis.
Under the continuous applications process, applications for new listings and amendments to the Prostheses List will be accepted from 2 August 2010.
On completion of processing an application, any changes required to the Prostheses List will occur the next available time the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules are made. The Rules will be made twice per year, in February and August.
Full details of the arrangements for continuous applications are being developed. The Department will continue to communicate and consult with stakeholders about the continuous applications process and other HTA Review recommendations through PHI Circulars, existing committees and ad hoc meetings as necessary.
