Rebates for Cataract Surgery from 1 February 2010

PHI Circular 79/09 advised that the Minister for Health and Ageing had made a determination under section 3C of the Health Insurance Act 1973 giving effect to new Medicare rebates for cataract surgery for MBS items 42698, 42701 and 42702.

The Minister has made a new determination under section 3C with effect from 1 February 2010. This new determination provides a revised fee structure for the affected MBS items and replaces the fees put in place by the previous determination which was effective from 26 November 2009 to 31 January 2010.

The items will attract the following benefits from 1 February 2010:
  • 42698 - $572.20 (schedule fee), $429.15 (75% of schedule fee)
  • 42701 - $319.10 (schedule fee), $239.35 (75% of schedule fee)
  • 42702 - $731.80 (schedule fee), $548.85 (75% of schedule fee)
