PHI 63/07 - Tabling of Report on Prostheses Listing Arrangements
In 2005, the Commonwealth Government made a series of improvements to the prostheses list arrangements so that insured patients had access to a range of clinically effective and appropriate prostheses at a reasonable cost. The National Health Amendment (Prostheses) Act 2005 (the Act) requires an independent review of the operation of the new arrangements (the Review) to report to the Minister for Health and Ageing no later than 1 October 2007. The Act also requires a copy of the report of the review to be tabled in Parliament within 15 sitting days after its receipt by the Minister.
Mr Robert Doyle, Chair of the Review, has consulted widely on the prostheses listing arrangements and has now reported to the Minister. Mr Doyle’s report, Report of the Review of the Prostheses Listing Arrangements, was tabled in the Senate on 15 October 2007. An electronic version of the Report can be accessed at the following link:

Negotiations have commenced for the December 2007 prostheses list. As it is well-advanced, in the interests of continuity this process will continue under the present listing arrangements.
