PHI 74/18 Administrative Changes to Second-Tier Hospital Applications (PDF 47 KB)

From 1 January 2019, the Second-Tier Advisory Committee (STAC) will no longer assess applications for Second Tier eligibility. This function will be managed by the Private Health Insurance Branch in the Department of Health.

The Department of Health has considered feedback from the private health insurance and private hospital sectors on draft guidelines for administration of second-tier default benefits eligibility, a draft application form for hospitals applying for second tier default eligibility and a draft categorisation of hospitals for second-tier default benefits purposes. These documents have now been finalised and are available on the Department of Health website - Second Tier Default Benefits web page.

Applications for Second Tier Hospital eligibility will be accepted from 1 January 2019. These should be submitted to PHIsecondtier@health.gov.au
