Non-Directive Pregnancy Support Counselling MBS Items

These items provide Medicare benefits for the provision of non-directive pregnancy support counselling by eligible GPs, and psychologists, social workers and mental health nurses on referral from a GP.

The non-directive pregnancy support counselling service is available to women who are concerned about a current pregnancy or a pregnancy that occurred in the preceding 12 months. These services can be used to address any pregnancy related issues for which non-directive counselling is appropriate.

Pregnancy, Birth & Baby Helpline

The Pregnancy, Birth & Baby Helpline (Helpline) is an Australia-wide, 24 hour, seven days a week helpline that provides access to information and support for women, their partners and families on pregnancy and the first 12 months of a baby’s life. Where appropriate, the Helpline directs callers to maternity-related services including specialist and support services. The Helpline offers counselling on general antenatal and postnatal issues, non-directive counselling on pregnancy options and will put you in touch with local specialist and support services if further assistance is required.
