Health System Analysis
The Health System Analysis (HSA) Section aims to contribute to closing the gap in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health by providing high quality timely data, analysis and reporting to support policy and program development. This includes preparation of the Health Performance Framework, provision of advice to inform COAG performance indicator development, closing the gap targets, and support for national data activities.Publications: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Performance Framework - Reports
Health Policy
The Health Policy Section works across the Division and Department to provide strategic policy development, direction and leadership on whole-of-portfolio policy impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, including National Health Reform.National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan (NATSIHP)
This section manages:- Development and implementation of an appraisal process for the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health 2003 to 2013
- Managing the development of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan.
- Managing selected other policy/ analysis, including the Aboriginal Health Survey, NGATSIHID
Whole of Government Policy
The Whole of Government Policy (WOGP) Section oversees and manages Departmental involvement in COAG Closing the Gap activities. This includes coordinating the Department's contribution to whole of Government Indigenous Affairs committees, including but not limited to:- Secretaries' Group on Indigenous Affairs (SGIA);
- Working Group on Indigenous Reform (WGIR);
- Executive Coordination Forum on Indigenous Affairs (ECFIA); and
- Commonwealth Indigenous Reform Group (CIRG).
Stakeholder Engagement
The Stakeholder Engagement Section develops and maintains effective stakeholders relationships including:- coordinating the secretariat and policy support to the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Equality Council (NATSIHEC) secretariat and its sub-committees. - providing support to the Commonwealth representatives of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Official’s Network (NATSIHON);
- the development of pathways of communication with the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples; and
- assisting with stakeholders consultations for the development of National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan.
