Templestowe Private Nursing Home is a 60 bed high care home located in Lower Templestowe.
The home was originally accredited for a one-year period from 12 December 2000.
C.I.S Holdings Pty Ltd has been the approved provider since 30 May 1999. The building is a leasehold premises.
At the end of January 2001, the Agency commenced a review audit at the home and on 23 February 2001, the home's accreditation period was reduced to 9 months and will run out on 12th September, 2001. No serious risk was found.
In accordance with the Agency's policy of transparency, the review audit report is available from the Agency's website.
Since January, the Department has conducted 9 spot checks and other regular visits including a meeting of residents and relatives in June and numerous meetings with the approved provider.
The Department took compliance action on the home on 1 March 2001 and sanctions were imposed on the home on 5 June 2001 requiring the appointment of an administrator, who took up the position on 22 June 2001 and is still in place.
On 23 - 24 July 2001, the Agency conducted an accreditation audit at the home. During the audit, serious risk was identified in relation to specialised nursing care needs and pain management.
Since that time there has been daily visits by the Commonwealth Nursing Officers to ensure residents receive appropriate care.
The Department has sought a solution which provides minimal disruption to the resident's and their families. The Department's preference is the sale of the home to a new approved provider with a good track record which allows the residents to remain in the home.
On 26 July 2001, the approved provider has agreed to proposing the transfer of the places to a new approved provider. Discussions are currently being held between potential purchasers, the Department and the current approved provider.
The Department attended a meeting of residents and relatives last night, where they were informed of these matters.
The Department and the Agency will continue to closely monitor the home.
