Melton Court Residential Care Service is a privately owned 32 place home located in Melton, Victoria.
The home achieved accreditation for three years from 10 January 2000 to 10 January 2003.
On 3, 4 and 5 July 2001, the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency conducted a review audit at Melton Court Residential Care Service and found serious risk.
In accordance with the Agency's policy of transparency, the review audit report is available from the Agency upon request.
On 1 August 2001, the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency informed the Department of Health and Aged Care and the approved provider of Melton Court Residential Care Service that the Agency has revoked the home's accreditation effective as of 28 September 2001.
The approved provider has indicated it will seek a reconsideration of the decision to revoke accreditation and has 14 days to do so.
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care has imposed sanctions requiring the appointment of a nurse adviser (now effective), no Commonwealth funding for new residents for six months and the restriction to low care residents in the future.
Melton Court have responded very positively and is working cooperatively with the Department to take immediate remedial action.
The resident identified in the review audit is currently under hospital care.
Melton has also appointed a new Director of Nursing and a nurse adviser, part of Universal Care Management, who are providing clinical care and management advice.
Residents and relatives have been informed of the Department's sanctions action and the home is holding weekly meetings with residents and relatives. The residents and their families are supportive of the actions being taken to address the situation, by the home, the Department and the Agency.
Commonwealth Nursing Officers are visiting the home regularly to ensure residents receive appropriate care.
The Department and the Agency will continue to closely monitor the home.
