Staffing concerns at Kenilworth Nursing Home

The ongoing care and well being of the two remaining residents at the Kenilworth Nursing Home in Melbourne will continue to be monitored closely by the Department of Health and Aged Care.

Following a decision by staff to leave the facility, and discussion with the facility's service provider, arrangements have been made for relief staff to continue care of the two remaining residents at Kenilworth.

The situation will continue to be monitored by the Department and relief staff will be maintained until residents either choose to move to another facility or other staffing arrangements are made by the provider.

Residents and their families have been contacted by the advocacy service, Residential Care Rights and informed of the current situation, their rights and their choices. The Department will assist should residents choose to move to alternate suitable accommodation.

The Department has made all relevant payments to the service providers at Kenilworth Nursing Home and at Belvedere Park. Pre-payment of residential care subsidy was made for the month of December for Kenilworth and Belvedere Park. The January payment for Belvedere Park has been made. Commonwealth funding for Kenilworth ceased on the first of January as the facility failed to achieve accreditation and was not given a exceptional circumstances determination.

The ongoing care and wellbeing of residents is the primary concern of the Department and this will continue to be closely monitored at both facilities. Internal industrial issues are the responsibility of service providers and the Department is unable to comment on such matters.
