Information about our Graduate Development Program.
What is the Graduate Development Program?
The Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a 12 month full time program, with the following core components:
- a comprehensive induction;
- a minimum of three rotations;
- a suite of formal off-the-job training; and
- advancement to an APS4 classification upon successful completion of the program.

- on-the-job training; and
- a comprehensive training program.
What do grads get to do?
Our graduates undertake three workplace rotations over the 12 month period. Rotations may be in areas such as:- policy development;
- program management;
- corporate management; and
- A Health Portfolio Minister’s Office (an additional selection process is required upon successful entry into the GDP).
- conducting research and analysis for reports ranging from literary background to working with budgets for major projects;
- preparing briefing material for conferences and ministerial visits;
- applying legislation;
- analysing and evaluating policy;
- working on briefings, speeches, reports, letters, ministerials and minutes;
- liaising with State and Territory Offices;
- supporting project and contract management in preparing tenders;
- undertaking secretariat work including attending meetings interstate; and
- Working with other graduates to organise events and networking opportunities.
Training
A program of timely, relevant and structured formal training has been developed to ensure graduates receive key training opportunities during the GDP.Graduates must attend all compulsory internal training before they can successfully complete the GDP and be advanced to an APS4. Graduates are responsible for managing their attendance at the compulsory events.
