Commonwealth Health and Aged Care Budget 2000-2001
The flagship of the 2000-2001 Federal Budget is the Regional Health Strategy : more doctors, better services. Supporting this major platform for regional and rural communities, is a range of innovative measures for all Australians including: preventing disease and illness; improving childhood health; strengthening the pharmaceutical system; and increasing support for our greatest health asset, Medicare. This is the third successful health Budget, completing a trilogy that began in 1998-99 with unprecedented reforms to private health insurance, followed by last year's major stake in medical research and now rural health - all three of which have revolutionised health care in Australia.
The Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care encourages you to read on to find out more about the various initiatives under this Budget.
