Fact Sheet 2 - Aged Care

Ensuring quality care

The Federal Government is determined to provide an aged care system that offers high care standards and has the confidence of the community.

Aged care standards are monitored by the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency. The Complaints Resolution Scheme was also established and aims to give those involved in aged care access to a mechanism to handle complaints.

In the coming financial year, the Government will spend $3.8 billion on residential age care.

The accreditation system now underway requires providers to commit to continuous improvement that in turn requires more than just simple compliance with minimum standards.

New resources allocated in this Budget will allow the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency to give additional support to this process by further developing rapid response teams to monitor issues related to care standards.

It will also provide resources for the Department of Health and Aged Care to expand the investigation of complaints by the Complaints Resolution Scheme.

The Government has committed $11.7 million over four years to this initiative.
