Foreword

This is the fifth release of the HACC MDS Annual Bulletin. The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing has compiled the following statistics from state and territory HACC programs to determine the national levels of service care provision, for planning, for policy and for research. The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare provided assistance with the preparation of this report.

The HACC MDS has improved in its quality and will continue to be an output reporting mechanism for the HACC program.

Previous releases of the HACC MDS Annual Bulletins have seen the sector embrace the statistical findings and the sector has come to rely on it for research into care provision and client and carer characteristics.
The data items collected in the HACC MDS are described in the publication Home and Community Care Program National Minimum Data Set User Guide Version 2.0 which incorporates the HACC Data Dictionary including data items for version 2 of the HACC MDS.

Further information regarding the HACC MDS may be obtained from the Australian Government’s website (http://www.health.gov.au).
