Stakeholder Consultation
Food Regulation Stakeholder Consultation Forums
In 2004, the Food Regulation Standing Committee (FRSC) endorsed a strategy for communication with stakeholders. A Stakeholder Consultation Forum (the Forum) was one of the components of the strategy. FRSC agreed that the aims of the Forum were to:- increase public awareness of food policy issues and how the food regulatory system operates;
- enable stakeholders to provide views on the policy guideline development process; and
- build relationships between stakeholders and those developing policy.
The first Forum was held in March 2004 in Canberra.
In 2008, FRSC agreed that the Forum would be held annually and the hosting responsibility would alternate between FRSC and the Implementation Sub Committee.
Since its inception, the Forum has continued to be well received by representatives from public health, consumer, industry and government sectors.
In April 2011, following consultation with key stakeholders regarding the current model for the Forum, FRSC agreed to defer the Forum for 2011 in order to develop a revised model for future Forums. Details regarding the location and arrangements for the 2012 Forum will be available in due course.
