In April 2003, the Ministerial Council endorsed a flexible approach to consultation for the development of policy on food regulation, known as the Consultative Mechanism. At the time of endorsement, the Ministerial Council specified that the Consultative Mechanism be reviewed 12 months after implementation.
The review of the Consultative Mechanism has now been completed. A review of the Consultative Mechanism in New Zealand was conducted separately by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority. Both reports were tabled at the 31 March 2005 Ministerial Council meeting.
