Closing the Gap: Northern Territory

Mobile Outreach Service Plus

The Mobile Outreach Service Plus provides counselling and support for Aboriginal children and their families and communities in remote Northern Territory who are experiencing trauma related to any form of child abuse.

The Mobile Outreach Service Plus (MOS Plus) is funded through the Stronger Futures in the Northern Territory - Health measure. It aims to provide access to timely, culturally safe counselling and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, and their families and communities in remote Northern Territory, who are experiencing trauma related to any form of child abuse, including sexual assault.

The key elements of the MOS Plus model include both preventative and therapeutic interventions, availability to children 0 to 17 years, cultural sensitivity, local accessibility, the involvement of key individuals in the child or young person's family and community, and specialist staff such as Aboriginal Therapeutic Resource Workers and counsellors.

An independent evaluation of the service, Evaluation of the NT MOS projects, was released in January 2012.
