Nursing and Midwifery Health Program Victoria
Issue
Funding of the Nursing and Midwifery Health Program (Victoria) by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
Response
The Australian Government acknowledges the commitment, diligence and work of all nurses and midwives in their provision of high standards of care and service to patients within the Australian health system.
The National Registration and Accreditation Scheme (NRAS) for health professions is a national scheme in which practitioners are registered under the laws of their respective state and territory jurisdictions, and operates independently of the Commonwealth.
At the commencement of the NRAS on 1 July 2010 the Nurses Board of Victoria ceased to exist, and its functions were transferred to the NMBA and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. The NMBA is now responsible for the regulation of the nursing and midwifery professions.
Decisions regarding the continuation of the Nursing and Midwifery Health Program (Victoria) are a matter for the NMBA. The NMBA can be contacted through the NMBA website or by writing to Ms Anne Copeland, Chair, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, GPO Box 9958, Melbourne, Victoria, 3001.
