Release of exposure draft legislation for Healthcare Identifiers
Further consultation on legislative proposals for healthcare identifiers, including the release of exposure draft legislation was undertaken between 20 November 2009 and 7 January 2010. Please note, consultation has now closed.
On 13 November 2009, Health Ministers affirmed their commitment to the introduction of a national healthcare identifiers system in 2010 and agreed to further consultation on legislative proposals for healthcare identifiers.

The Minister for Health and Ageing, the Hon. Nicola Roxon announced the release of an exposure draft of the Healthcare Identifiers Bill 2010 for public comment.

The exposure draft legislation should be read in conjunction with the publication, Building the foundations for an e-health future: update on legislative proposals for healthcare identifiers (PDF 966KB).
Public consultation on the revised legislative proposals for healthcare identifiers has now closed. Submissions on the exposure draft legislation consultation, with permission of the authors are now available.

Help with accessing large documents

- Click the link with the RIGHT mouse button
- Choose "Save Target As.../Save Link As..." depending on your browser
- Select an appropriate folder on a local drive to place the downloaded file
Attempting to open large documents within the browser window (by left-clicking)
may inhibit your ability to continue browsing while the document is
opening and/or lead to system problems.
Help with accessing PDF documents
To view PDF (Portable Document Format) documents, you will need to have a PDF reader installed on your computer. A number of PDF readers are available through the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) Web Guide website.
