Reporting

Only confirmed cases should be notified. Where a mother and foetus/neonate are both confirmed, both cases should be notified.

Confirmed case

A confirmed case requires laboratory definitive evidence only.

Laboratory definitive evidence

Isolation or detection of Listeria monocytogenes from a site that is normally sterile, including foetal gastrointestinal contents.
