Only confirmed cases should be notified.

Confirmed case

A confirmed case requires laboratory definitive evidence AND clinical evidence.

Laboratory definitive evidence

Laboratory exclusion of hepatitis A, B, C, D and E and other clinically relevant infectious and non-infectious causes of hepatitis.

Clinical evidence

Clinical hepatitis, defined as:

1. Jaundice


2. Bilirubin in urine


3. Alanine transaminase (ALT) seven times the upper limit of normal.
