Research Report: Exploratory Research Regarding Infant Feeding Attitudes and Behaviours

The Department contracted Woolcott Research Pty Ltd to undertake qualitative research on breastfeeding.

The research aimed to explore infant feeding attitudes and experiences, identify barriers and enablers to breastfeeding, and consider factors that contribute to initiation and continuation of breastfeeding. The research included focus groups and in-depth interviews with pregnant women, mothers, partners, grandmothers, health professionals and breastfeeding counsellors. The outcomes of the research were considered in the development of the Australian National Breastfeeding Strategy 2010-2015.
