What is the Asthma cycle of care?
The Asthma cycle of care is a plan developed by doctors to help you look after your asthma. You will need to visit your doctor at least twice a year. Your doctor will:- check your asthma
- write you an asthma action plan
- give you information about how to manage your asthma and
- check how well your asthma medicine is working Top of page
Who can use an Asthma cycle of care?
Anyone with asthma can use the Asthma cycle of care.As a guide, you may be suffering from asthma if you:
- wheeze or cough most days or at night
- have frequent asthma attacks
- use an asthma reliever more than three times per week
- use preventer medicines or
- have been to hospital due to your asthmaTop of page
How will this help me?
The Asthma cycle of care provides you and your doctor with a framework for ongoing care and regular review of your asthma.Completing an Asthma cycle of care and/or developing a written asthma action plan with your doctor will help you to gain control of your asthma and stay symptom free.
The more you understand your asthma and maintain regular visits to your GP, the more likely you are to have:
- better controlled asthma
- fewer symptoms
- fewer asthma attacks
- fewer days off school/work due to asthma
- fewer hospital visits due to asthma and
- an overall better quality of life. Top of page
