About the APEC Health Task Force
In 2003, both the APEC Health Ministers and the APEC Industrial Science and Technology Working Group delegates called for a mechanism to address health issues more efficiently and effectively with APEC. Senior Officials responded by establishing the ad hoc Health Task Force in October 2003The APEC Health Task Force is responsible for addressing health-related threats to economies’ trade and security, focusing mainly on emerging infectious diseases. The Task Force implements APEC’s health-related activities as directed by Leaders, Ministers and Senior Officials, including activities contained in the Health Security Initiative of 2003 .
The sixth APEC Health Task Force Meeting was held over the two days leading up to the APEC 2007 Health Ministers Meeting. Apec Ministers have agreed to establish a Health Working Group to replace the Health Task Force when its mandate expires at the end of 2007.
