Your Rights
Your Rights: Residential Care Services
Information on the standards service providers must meet in the way they deliver services and how they treat you.
Your Rights
Your personal, civil, legal and consumer rights in any residential care service are the same as those of any other Australian. Your rights include the right to personal privacy and to decide what happens to your belongings, the right to move or change the care you receive, the right to complain and the right to vote or practice your own religion.Making a complaint
If you are not happy with the service you are receiving, and you want to make a complaint, the best place to start is by discussing the problem with your aged care home(nursing home, hostel or service provider). Each home is required to have a system in place to assist in resolving problems. You can also seek help from the resident's committee in your service, which is made up of residents and family members. If you are unable to resolve the complaint, the Aged Care Complaints Investigation Scheme can help. The Scheme is independent, free and unbiased. Contact the Scheme on 1800 550 552.
