Seeking residents' views in residential aged care

A package of materials designed to assist residential aged care services to gain and use views of residents. The materials in the package complement major aspects of the aged care reform strategy and provide a practical way for services to learn more about residents’ needs and concerns.

In this section:

What are the different items in the package?

There are five different items in the package which will allow you to choose an approach that suits the needs of residents, staff and the home as a whole. There are two background/information booklets and three versions of a survey.

Product 1:

An information booklet (PDF 232 KB) is the key document for effective use of the materials. It provides an overview, rationale, questions and discussion, practical ideas and sample forms/letters.

Product 2:

Getting Started Notes (PDF 147 KB) presents a short overview of the resident satisfaction process and has checklists which are cross-references to the other products in the package.

Product 3:

A Resident’s Survey (PDF 137 KB) is designed to gain residents’ views on a range of matters. It includes multiple-choice questions and has space for comments.

Product 4:

A Resident’s Representative Survey (PDF 146 KB) is designed for use where other people are providing a proxy view on behalf of a resident.

Product 5:

A Key Points Survey (PDF 112 KB) has a key question in six areas relevant to resident satisfaction. This is a simpler version of the Resident’s Survey and is also useful for group response.
