The Department of Health and Ageing is currently reviewing the accreditation process for residential aged care homes.
The Department of Health and Ageing is currently reviewing the accreditation process for residential aged care homes.
Accreditation forms an integral part of the Australian Government’s approach to quality in residential aged care. Accreditation involves an independent team of assessors evaluating the achievements of an aged care home against a pre-determined set of standards.
A discussion paper was developed to facilitate discussion and debate and submissions were invited from interested organisations and individuals to inform the review. Submissions formally closed on 17 July 2009.
A total of 147 submissions were received from a range of stakeholders, including industry, professional and consumer groups.
The Department is currently analysing the submissions and the outcomes of this consultation process will inform the development of advice for the Government’s consideration.
