Senior Australian of the Year Award

Information and details of finalists and results from the Senior Australian of the Year award.

By showcasing and celebrating the achievements of older Australians, this award encourages Australians to develop more positive attitudes about older people and their contributions. The Senior Australian of the Year Award is managed by the National Australia Day Council.

The Senior Australian of the Year Award, sponsored by the Department of Health and Ageing, recognises individuals over the age of 60 who have made a significant contribution to the welfare of Australia, present a positive image of ageing, and are outstanding role models in the community.

Nominations for the 2012 Senior Australian of the Year opened on 6 July 2011 and close on 31 August 2011.

State and territory finalists will be announced in November 2011, and the national winner will be announced at a ceremony in Canberra on 25 January.
