Draft Aged Care Workforce Supplement Guidelines
On 20 April 2012, the Australian Government unveiled Living Longer Living Better, a comprehensive 10 year package to reshape aged care in Australia.
The Living Longer Living Better aged care reform package provides $3.7 billion over five years. It encompasses a 10 year reform program to create a flexible and seamless system that provides older Australians with more choice, control and easier access to a full range of services, where they want it and when they need it.
Creating an appropriately skilled and well qualified workforce - a key component of the reform package - is fundamental to delivering high quality aged care services that meet the needs of older Australians. Up to $1.2 billion is available to achieve these outcomes through the Addressing Workforce Pressures initiative and will be delivered in two parts - through the Aged Care Workforce Supplement, and the Aged Care Workforce Development Plan.
From 1 July 2013, the Australian Government will provide additional funding through an Aged Care Workforce Supplement to aged care providers that meet the eligibility requirements. This additional funding will provide higher wages and better conditions for aged care workers.
Draft Guidelines for the Aged Care Workforce Supplement are being released as a consultation draft to assist stakeholders in understanding the provisions under the Workforce Supplement, and to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to provide comments and feedback on the proposed application arrangements.
The consultation draft is available on the Living Longer Living Better website – then follow the Quick Link to Current Public Consultations.
The development of the draft Guidelines has been informed by the Strategic Workforce Advisory Group’s deliberations, but does not necessarily represent the views of all stakeholders.
Comments and feedback from stakeholders on the consultation draft will inform the final Guidelines. The final Guidelines will be made available on the Living Longer Living Better website
