New Accreditation Grant Principles

Dear Approved Providers

New Accreditation Grant Principles

In March 2008 the Government announced a comprehensive review of the accreditation process. The review indicated that a rewrite of the Accreditation Grant Principles was required in order to remove or amend outdated provisions and streamline the accreditation process. The Accreditation Grant Principles describe the role of the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency Ltd (the accreditation body).

Following consideration of the review and further consultation regarding proposed amendments to the Principles, the Accreditation Grant Principles 1999 have been revoked and replaced with new Accreditation Grant Principles 2011, effective 20 May 2011. The Accreditation Grant Principles 2011 and Explanatory Statement can be downloaded from the Comlaw website.

The purpose of the Accreditation Grant Principles 2011 is to remove or amend outdated provisions; improve readability; streamline the accreditation process for industry; enhance consumer engagement; and provide greater clarity and consistency of administrative processes.

Transitional arrangements in the new legislation mean that the Accreditation Grant Principles 2011 will apply to all applications for accreditation or reaccreditation that are made to the Agency on or after 20 May 2011. Applications that have been made before that time, and are still under consideration by the Agency as at 20 May 2011, will continue to be dealt with under the Accreditation Grant Principles 1999.
