Invitation to Influence the Direction of Aged Care Reform (Wagga)
Dear Stakeholder,
You are invited to have your say in the development of a new 'front end' for aged care and future directions for the aged care component of the Home and Community Care (HACC) Program.
The new ‘front end’ will assist older Australians, their families, and carers to more easily access information, assessment and links to aged care services. On 5 April 2011, Minister Butler announced the first step in the phased implementation of the new ‘front end’ for aged care - the introduction of a single phone number to access and navigate the system. This first step will begin on 1 July 2011 and will also include improvements to the information available on the Aged Care Australia website.
From 1 July 2011, the Commonwealth will assume full funding and policy responsibility for basic HACC aged care services for older people (65 years and older, 50 years and older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people). From 1 July 2012, the Commonwealth will fund and administer a program of basic aged community care services for older people, through direct funding agreements with service providers. The Commonwealth is committed to engaging with stakeholders in the aged care sector to ensure information on specific aspects of the transition of basic community aged care are addressed.
These initiatives are part of the National Health Reform, agreed by the Council of Australian Governments.
Consultations are being organised to provide the opportunity for participants to highlight the strengths of the current system, raise issues to consider during the development and phased implementation of the new ‘front end’ and the future directions for the HACC program.
