Timing

The 2012 Survey of Aged Care Homes was circulated to all approved providers in July 2012.

Approved Providers are required to complete the 2012 survey questionnaire for each service with a distinct RACS ID number that they owned on 2 July 2012.

Responses to the survey are required by 17 August 2012.

Background

Each year’s Survey of Aged Care Homes seeks information on accommodation payments and building activity during the previous financial year for each and every operating residential aged care service (RACS).

The Department of Health and Ageing appreciates the time being spent by all approved providers and their staff to provide the information. Thank you for your assistance.

Each year’s Survey of Aged Care Homes seeks information on accommodation payments and building activity during the previous financial year. The Department gathers this information to prepare the annual Report on the Operation of the Aged Care Act 1997. The Minister for Ageing is required by Section 63-2 of the Aged Care Act 1997 to include the information collected by the Survey and present this report to Parliament by 30 November in each year. This information is only available to the Department through the Survey of Aged Care Homes.

Approved Providers have a responsibility to give the Minister information about accommodation bonds and charges that the Minister needs to prepare the annual report on the operation of the Act. An Approved Provider must comply with this request within the period specified below. This is specified in Part 3 of the Accountability Principles 1998 made under subsection 96-1(1) of the Act.

2012 Survey Questionnaire

The questionnaire for the Survey is similar to last year and has been circulated in hard-copy form by post to all approved providers. Responses are required by 17 August 2012.

Information collected by the Survey is confidential and protected by law. It will be used only for the Report of the Aged Care Act 1997 and for statistical research. No data will be publicly disclosed that identify individual services, providers or residents. Information from the survey will not be used for compliance purposes.
