Archived residential care fees and charges
Income support payments, including age and service pensions, may be indexed in March or September. Maximum Rates for residential care fees and charges have changed as follows, effective from 30 March 2000.

* Residents who entered a hostel before 1 October 1997 and agreed to pay a higher variable fee may continue to pay that amount, less any rent assistance they were receiving before this date.
** People with Assets between these amounts may pay an accommodation charge on a sliding scale, based on the margin of assets above $24,000 divided by 5 years.
*** Pensioner Supplement is indexed annually on 1 July
From 20 March 2000, the maximum interest rate payable on overdue payments of the accommodation charge is 7% per annum. This maximum rate will apply to accommodation charge agreements entered from that date. For existing agreements, the maximum interest rate is 6% per annum. A lower rate may be specified in the agreement.
Treasury advises that the Treasury Note Yield for residents entering into an accommodation bond agreement and who enter care in the 1 April to 30 June 2000 quarter, is 9.650%.
The Treasury Note Yield is the maximum interest rate that providers can charge on accommodation bonds paid after the due date or as periodic payments.
