A Mature Approach to Eating Properly
The 'Mature Approach to Eating Properly' Poster and Brochure are part of the Ambassador for Ageing's positive ageing message.
Did you know that as you age your ability to absorb some nutrients becomes less efficient? Medications, smoking and alcohol consumption can also affect the absorption of nutrients. Our energy requirements also decrease because we have less lean body mass and therefore a lower metabolic rate which means we tend to eat less. This can make it harder to make sure we get all the nutrients we need to ensure good health.
Because older Australians often eat less it is very important to eat a variety of nutritious foods to make sure you get enough vitamins, minerals and dietary fibre. Eating a range of foods like vegetables, fruits, breads and cereals, legumes, lean meat, fish, poultry or meat alternatives, dairy and water every day is essential to good health.
Eating well is just as important as staying active. In fact, all the benefits of exercise can be undone by a poor diet. A good diet, combined with physical and social activity is the best recipe for health as we age. To find out more information view the 'Mature Approach to Eating Properly' Poster and Brochure below.
