Launch – Mount Alexander Shire Council Seniors Festival, VIC – 30 September 2010
The Mount Alexander Shire Council launched their Seniors Festival on 30 September at the impressive Castlemaine Art Gallery. Noeline was thrilled to be asked to come along and launch this wonderful community event for older Australians.Noeline congratulated the Council for their efforts in organising such a great Festival, which not only celebrates older people but also provides many opportunities for local seniors to enjoy a variety of social activities, such as Tai Chi, table tennis, bingo, walking groups, dancing, and readings at the library, just to name a few.
If the launch was anything to go by, older residents of the Mount Alexander Shire are in for a great time during the Seniors Festival.
Guest Lecturer – Elizabeth Jolley Lecture – Curtin University, WA – 23 September 2010
Since 1991 the Faculty of Humanities, Curtin University has held an annual lecture series named after the late Elizabeth Jolley, former lecturer in the School of Communication and Cultural Studies. Previous years speakers have included Ruth Cracknell, Barry Humphries, Carmen Lawrence and Pat Dodson.Noeline was honoured to accept an invitation as this year's Guest Lecturer to speak on the topic of 'Ageing and Ageism in the Media'. As part of this lecture, Noeline shared personal stories about her experience as a working actor in her 70's, and discussed research into contemporary culture mass media and it's role in defining society's views of older people. In her role as Ambassador, Noeline actively encourages positive media representation of older people.
Guest Speaker – VIEW Club – Canberra, ACT – 18 September 2010
It has been an exciting year for VIEW Clubs across Australia as they have celebrated 50 years of the Club's history and looked to the future. This year of celebration culminated in an Annual National Conference held in Canberra with over 800 women in attendance.As one of the keynote speakers, Noeline had the audience entertained and inspired as she shared tips for ageing well and applauded VIEW Clubs for their contribution to their local communities.
Guest Speaker – Probus Club – Robina, QLD – 13 September 2010
Noeline enjoyed spending time with the Robina Probus Club, the weather was almost as warm as the people. While Noeline shared stories about the amazing older Australians she has met through her role as Australia's first Ambassador for Ageing,Probus Club members also encouraged Noeline through their own stories of living life to the full.
Guest Speaker – City of Burnside Home Assist – Adelaide, SA – 8 September 2010
This first Senior’s Expo for the City of Burnside provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the range of services and activities available in the Eastern region.Noeline encouraged people through her own example as an active older Australian that positive ageing isn’t about hitting a magic number but living life to the full.
Guest Speaker – Illawarra Older Women’s Network Wellness Centre – Wollongong, NSW – 6 September 2010
Noeline was pleased to be able to celebrate the first birthday of the Older Women’s Network in Wollongong. The celebrations included a mix of entertaining acts from members of the network as well as informative presentations including an introduction to Laughter Yoga.Noeline was able to share personal stories of those she has met in the role as Australia’s Ambassador for Ageing who have demonstrated a commitment to life long learning and volunteering.
