Award Presenter – Master Builders Australia National Housing Awards - Canberra, ACT – 19 November 2010
In her role as Ambassador for Ageing, Noeline had the privilege of presenting the 'Master Builders National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award' at a national ceremony at Parliament House.The 'Master Builders National Lifestyle Housing for Seniors Award' is designed to encourage builders to prepare for the changes that ageing will bring.
Noeline spoke on the importance of the building industry, noting that with ninety-four percent of Australia's population living independently in the community the role of the building industry is powerful in supporting older Australians to age well.
Guest Speaker – QUOTA Rose Show – Goulburn, NSW– 12 November 2010
Noeline was delighted to open the QUOTA Rose Show in her role as Australia's Ambassador for Ageing and as a fellow garden enthusiast. With the motto of "We Share", QUOTA used the Rose Show to raise funds for disadvantaged women, young people and children within the Goulburn community.Noeline encouraged members of QUOTA and their guests to continue to garden as a great strategy to ageing well. Noeline quoted research that states an hour tending to your garden will burn 350 calories, more than you'd lose in an hour of brisk walking, adding that you also receive benefits such as fresh fruits and veggies!
Guest Speaker – Campbelltown Ladies Probus Club – Campbelltown, NSW– 9 November 2010
Noeline received a very warm welcome from the Campbelltown Ladies Probus Club as she spoke on healthy ageing. Noeline reminded the women that growing older is not something to be worried about, but instead encouraged them to continue to do positive things and to make the most of every day. Older people, Noeline said, do not retire from life when they retire from work!Guest Speaker – Positive Ageing- A Good News Story – Kingsford, NSW– 8 November 2010
The Consultative Consumer Committee, Prince of Wales Hospital, hosted a Positive Ageing Forum. The forum, open to all members of the community, provided an opportunity for Noeline to share healthy ageing messages and to chair a panel discussion with older Australians sharing stories about how they've lived their lives to the full.Panel members attribute their positive experience of ageing to:
- using computers;
- eating veggies;
- volunteering;
- happiness;
- staying connected to family and grandchildren;
- smiles on people's faces;
- staying physically active;
- doing crosswords and staying mentally active; and
- sharing and giving.
Over 500 people attended this worthwhile event.
