Port Macquarie U3A NSW Annual Conference - 29 March 2012
Noeline was asked to speak at the U3A's NSW Annual Conference in Port Macquarie about the importance of learning while we age.Although relatively small numbers of older people participate in mainstream formal education, larger numbers of older people participate in less formal learning and training activities, such as joining the U3A organisation.
"U3A is a very worthwhile organisation on the landscape of active ageing in Australia," Noeline said.
"Organisations such as U3A encourage retired people to take part in learning activities for pleasure in a relaxed environment at a low cost.
"What you learn at U3A builds on the wealth of a person's knowledge and it also provides an opportunity for people to share their knowledge with others," Noeline said.

Gundagai Healthy Ageing Expo - Wednesday, 21 March 2012
The Gundagai Healthy Ageing Expo was well attended by local seniors and there was a lot of helpful information available to the public.During the day a local nutritionist gave a presentation on cooking for one. She cooked an omelette for one which was a big hit with the audience. The nutritionist said that not only are eggs nutritious, easily available, relatively inexpensive and simple to prepare, they are also an essential part of a healthy balanced diet.
The recipe the nutritionist demonstrated was adapted from the Healthy Food Guide Australia (www.healthyfoodguide.com.au)."It is very important we eat a good diet whether we are a single person or not. We need to make sure we don't just have vegemite on toast for dinner if we are living alone. It is important to cook ourselves a healthy meal at night so we get the nutrients we need to keep our bodies strong and healthy," Noeline said.
