Queensland Elder Law Conference, Brisbane - 20 July 2012
Noeline was invited to the Queensland Law Society's Elder Law Conference to talk about her role and how the Ambassador for Ageing Program influences positive ageing.The conference brought together speakers from the legal and related professions to discuss a range of issues including elder abuse, aged care and retirement living and family arrangements.
"The issues discussed at the conference are really important ones, particularly elder abuse," Noeline said.
"I was impressed by the calibre of the speakers and I'm sure the impact of the conference will be of great benefit to older people and the law."

Visit to the Metropolitan Senior Citizens Centre - Brisbane 19 July 2012
Noeline was given a very warm welcome by staff and clients at the Metropolitan Senior Citizens Centre, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane on 19 July.The Metropolitan Senior Citizens Centre offers a variety of activities for seniors including a light exercise program, quilting, Tai Chi, aqua aerobics and craft. The Centre also has a day respite service and two weekly outings group.
During Noeline's visit she got to enjoy a short concert put on to entertain the seniors by a talented singer and musician.
"What a fantastic centre. It is a lovely place for seniors to visit and there is a variety of interesting and fun things for them to do while they're there. The staff are also delightful," Noeline said.
Noeline gave a short presentation about her role and she congratulated the seniors for staying connected to their community.

Visit to the Paddington Day Respite Centre - Brisbane 19 July 2012
Noeline was very impressed by the Paddington Day Respite Centre in Brisbane and she was made to feel very welcome during her visit.The aim of the Centre is to enhance the independence and quality of life of clients. The centre provides regular respite which enables clients to enjoy the company of others in a safe and caring environment, as well as providing carers and families with some time off.
The centre is open to local elderly people who may be frail or confused, as well as younger adults with disabilities.
"I was so pleased to learn the centre provides transport to and from the centre as well as nutritious meals cooked on the premises. There is also musical sessions and entertainment from singers, musicians and even line dancers," Noeline said.
"Clients also benefit from regular visits by an occupational therapist, and they can enjoy gentle exercise classes as well as participate in a variety of activities including craft, bingo and one of my favourite games, Scrabble."
The Centre is largely funded by the Home and Community Care Program.

50+ Crime Prevention and Personal Safety Event - Brisbane - 17 July 2012
The Queensland Police organised an event in Richlands, Brisbane, to provide seniors with information on fraud, personal safety, emergency preparedness as well as security of personal affairs.Noeline was invited to attend the event and talk about the importance of keeping abreast of technological changes so that older people can better safeguard their money and assets.
"There are so many scammers out there taking advantage of people so we need to do all we can to protect ourselves," Noeline said.
People attending the event learned very beneficial information about personal safety and how to better guard against fraudulent activities.
"Not everyone is out to get us, but we need to protect ourselves and our assets from those unscrupulous people who target older people," Noeline said.
